Halloween

Before I came to America, I expected Halloween coming. In my memory the Halloween is a very special holiday. It is different from our ghost festival (In ghost festival we be careful of everything). In America, people celebrated together, crazy…and TV also plays lots of horror movies. Halloween comes from the word all-hallow-even. In the November first, all-hallow-even is a Catholic day that is observed in honor of saints. In the 5th century BC was changed to October 31 because summer officially ended on October 31. One of the stories about Halloween was all of the spirits will come out and search of living people in Irish on the night of October 31. The Irish people didn’t want to be possessed, so they dress up as ghoulish and walked near their neighborhood. They did something destructive and they believe it can frighten away spirits. After the Irish immigrant to America, they also brought their custom to America. Because of that, nowadays Halloween becomes an important holiday to America or Canada. One of the most famous activities is trick-or-treat. Children disguise themselves and go to their neighborhoods to solicit the candies. If they don’t get the candies from their neighborhoods, they may trick them.
